Russian Music Festival:
The Russian Music Festival presents unique opportunities for students, parents and teachers to hear the high caliber of Russian Music in performance by students in Greater Vancouver area.
The Russian Music Festival offers both a competitive and non-competitive participation
All competitions are open to amateurs only. An “amateur” is one whose principal income is not derived from musical services. This condition does not apply to bona fide music students who study for purpose of applying money earned for their further musical education.
The festival is open to everyone in public.
Please note the following:
- The Russian Music Festival reserves the right to substitute adjudicators.
- Upon entering the Russian Music Festival, participants agree to the following liability waiver.
- The Russian Music Festival is not responsible for any claims, demands or damages concerning injury to any competitor that may occur during the annual Russian Music Festival.
Specific Rules and Regulations Entries
- All entry forms must be completed in full on an official entry form (photocopied entry forms are acceptable).Entries must show the following: mailing address of competitor; telephone number; date of birth; name of selection, as well as opus number and movements, if applicable, composer’s name; teacher’s name, address and phone number
- Deadline for entries: February 15, 2009.

Full payment must be included with the entry form. Cheques should be dated the day the entry form is submitted. Post dated cheques will not be accepted. If there is more than ONE performer per teacher (family) entering the festival, ONE cheque or Money Order may be issued to cover the combined total amount required (staple entry forms together).
- Entries close February 15, 2009 for all classes. No entry fee will be refunded.

Introductory, Grade 1,2,3 -$15.00
Grade 4,5,6,7 -$20.00
Grade 8,9,10, ARCT -$25.00
Ensembles and Duos
4 hands on one or two pianos.
All Grades -$20.00
Non-Competitive groups
All Grades and Ages -$20.00
Competitive Structure
- All competitors will receive a written adjudication as well as a certificate based on their mark - Winners of the first three places will be awarded with a special prize and opportunity to perform at the Gala Concert.
Repertoire and Rules
Participants are allowed one piece of their own choice.

Repertoire may be chosen from the British Columbia Conservatory of Music, Royal Conservatory of Music or Conservatory Canada Syllabus or Syllabus on the website www.russianmusicfestival.com
- Competitors are responsible for providing judges with their notes of the performing piece. Both original and copy notes are acceptable.
- Contestants without submitted copy of their piece will not be graded.
- Teachers should be responsible for choosing an appropriate level of difficulty of the piece.
- Only one piece of Russian or former Soviet Union composer must be performed.

Contestants in the Piano, Strings, Woodwind, Brass and Vocal Divisions should memorize their chosen selections but if they must use music, they must be prepared to lose marks.
Non-Competitive Structure
Participants are allowed one piece of their own choice.
Only one piece of Russian or former Soviet Union composer must be performed.
Performers do not have to memorize their piece, nor provide judges with a copy of their notes.
All performers will receive a certificate of participation.
Gala Concert
1. The Russian Music Festival reserves the right to select performers and repertoire for the Gala Concert. These selections will be based on adjudicator’s recommendations.
2. Performers selected to play at the Gala Concert will be notified by phone or Email.
3. If selected as a winner of an award, the competitor must be available to perform at the Gala Concert to receive the award. Participant will be responsible for notifying the Festival if unable to perform at the Gala.
